Surabaya-based band Thee Marloes has finally released their first album. Released through the New York City-based record label Big Crown Records, the album titled Perak summarizes the story of the journey of the three members of Thee Marloes living in their hometown.

Featuring 12 songs, the album brings back several of Thee Marloes’ previous singles that were actually part of their debut album.

Starting with their first single under Big Crown Records, Midnight Hotline; then continued with several other singles such as their Indonesian ballad, Beri Cinta Waktu; I Know, which discusses how to deal with the veil of lies in the principles of love; Not Today, which reminds listeners of the importance of taking a break at the weekend and leaving all existing worries behind; the feel good song Mungkin Saja; True Love, which takes Thee Marloes into a deeper realm of jazz music; and also Over, a song that describes the end of a romantic relationship.

Apart from the 7 songs they have previously released, Thee Marloes also present several new songs, including a song entitled Thank You, which is inspired by Latin American soul music, where this song is a song that Thee Marloes dedicates to their listeners who have supported them until today.

Then there is Nona, which is the only souldies song on this album whose story is taken from Raka’s personal experience of losing his best friend since childhood. In addition to those two, Thee Marloes also has their main single on this album, No One Else.

Despite being the shortest song on the album, No One Else is the most sentimental song presented by Thee Marloes, which tells the story of a girl’s struggle when faced with her partner who is feeling insecure.

Even though it has a fairly mellow feel, like other Thee Marloes releases, this song can be listened to anytime and anywhere.

“We want to share what we go through in this life,” said Natassya.

Regardless of background, language barriers or cultural origins, the music and energy that Thee Marloes imparts to each song can linger and be played on the turntable for years to come.

In addition to releasing their album digitally, Thee Marloes also released Perak on vinyl, CD, and cassette.

The physical album is already available in several music stores. In addition, their physical album can also be purchased when Thee Marloes performs.

Vocalist Natassya added, “Hopefully Perak can be our offering that can be enjoyed not only by our loyal listeners so far but by everyone. At the same time, hopefully this album can also make us more enthusiastic in making music and open the door to other opportunities including more stages out there.”

Currently, Thee Marloes are scheduled to perform at Malaysia’s Ombak Festival this September, where they will share the stage with Nile Rodgers & Chic, Grace Jones, Macy Gray, The Cardigans and more.

They are also set to hold their first Japanese tour in October. (Z-1)
