“If I had to relive the same story, I would have paid the cost once more. That makes the difference between a free spirit and a chained spirit, that makes the difference between breathing with your head held high… Or drowning in your own shit.” Explain Luis Formaiano regarding his work The blinds have eyes. It is that he took his personal story, when he was a 16-year-old boy in an Argentina governed by the military and who wanted to express what he had inside while being faithful to what he felt. Thus, the protagonist, Tony, confesses to his parents that he is gay facing not only the opinions of their parents but also that of a repressed society in more ways than one.
“The writing of this story involved going back 50 years in time, to a historical moment in which the conditions under which homosexuality was lived were highly unfavorable -evokes-. Added to the traumatic transgression of family mandates was the stigmatization and penalty with imprisonment due to current police edicts such as 2H, causing the group to move underground at private parties or meetings fraught with risks. The work is also a reflection on respect for one’s own desire, responsibility for the choices we make and the gestation of a resilient spirit that, finally, allows us to move forward in life with dignity and fullness.“.
This courageous attitude of a young man is reflected today in the life of a full adult.who did not need this text to catharsis since he is a psychologist and teacher, and that process happened a long time ago, but because it is a way to contribute to society, call for reflection and that is not circumscribed “only to sexuality but also to face family mandates when personal desire is another”, Luis clarifies in a chat via Zoom. He also rescues the process of taking the work to the embodiment in a room, in this case The Kairos Method (El Salvador 4530, CABA) of which he is a producer and as such he worked in all aspects. Here he rescues as important the participation of the director Patrick Azor, “To whom I proposed the play because I like his look and the warmth with which he works the texts. I had almost written a film script, with projected images and many other things. And Pato made it more theatrical by incorporating good stage things and adding the character of Tony as an adult. For my part, I chose Monica Stricker already Juan Lucero to embody parents. And together we gave the role to Emanuel Moreno Defalco, that embodies the Tony who rebels”. Next to them is also Juan Cruz Wenkwho not coincidentally has a great resemblance to the author of the piece, whom he embodies as an adult.
“I am very happy with the result and it still amazes me that the 50 people in the room do not make any noise during the performance. They are in complete concentration on what is happening to the characters. I recognize that it is a painful text, strong at times, and that the actors at the end are exhausted, such is the great dedication they make in each function. Later, when listening to the comments at the exit, people comment on what moment impacted them or what they felt identified with, “ Formaiano explains in the certainty of being contributing a grain of sand to communication between people. Surely viewers leave commenting on what they saw. And it also rescues, just as importantly as the performances and the work of the director, what they did Leandra Rodriguez with lighting, Maria Guglielmelli with the scenery. It is a complete combo that moves and excites with the performances on Sundays at 8:30 p.m., ideal for preparing to start the work week in a more thoughtful way, more understanding with others. If you doubt Luis, with his warmth and his wisdom, he knew how to achieve it with this text.
