Kollam ∙ When the Chief Minister arrived in Kollam yesterday, youths from Alappuzha who came from Alappuzha to see the Sambranikodi turut in the middle of Ashtamudi Kayal were detained by the police for 8 hours for wearing black shirts.
Faisal (18) and Ambadi (19), natives of Alappuzha Arur, reached the Kollam railway station around 10 am. The East police team took him into custody when he left the station, bought water from the shop and was leaning on the bike parked nearby.
The explanation given by the police is that they were taken into custody on suspicion of being thieves as bike theft is rampant in the area.
The programs to be attended by the Chief Minister were scheduled to be held at the QAC Maidan and the Town Hall next to the railway station. It is reported that the youths were taken into custody as part of a precautionary measure to prevent the protest of the opposition youth organizations here.
They were released along with their parents who came from Arur by night.
The youth said that when they came out of the railway station, they said that they were bike thieves and took them in a jeep and brought them to the station. The police did not allow him to go even though he showed him the train ticket to go back. They said that when a few more people wearing black shirts were brought to the station in the followingnoon, they understood that the reason for the arrest was the color of the shirts. 3 people were taken into custody for wearing black clothes in Iravipuram police station.
