Al-Marsad newspaper: The Yemeni groom, “Uqba”, whose marriage caused a stir following his wedding in a popular dress appeared in front of men, revealed that he had left the city of Taiz following receiving threatening messages.
And he said in his intervention on Al-Arabiya channel: “There is nothing shameful in what I did, and all Yemeni countryside weddings are held in this way, so I do not know what sin I committed, and this is a popular and inherited costume that we must preserve.”
He continued, “Yemeni society does not act as a barrier between men and women. In universities, markets and festivals, men and women mix with each other, so what is the obstacle in that?”
He added, “There are very frightening messages, and more than 8 mosque pulpits in Taiz have turned into incitement once morest me, my family and my wife.” He pointed out that he left Taiz for fear of this systematic incitement, and he hoped that those messages would be advice and guidance without criticism.
He concluded his speech by saying: “I thank my wife and her family for their understanding of this issue,” noting that he had raised this issue to the Yemeni Minister of Awqaf.
