A lighter version
Unlike the Series X, the Xbox Series S console relies on a more compact design. Unlike its big sister, which is rather imposing, it is easier to integrate into a living room with its small size: 27.5 cm x 15.1 cm x 6.5 cm only. Its look is also discreet with its all-white coating. Besides its appearance, the Series S also stands out for its silence and lack of overheating during gaming sessions.
It also stands out for the absence of a Blu-Ray player. It will thus be impossible for you to play your old console games if you have them in physical version. All game purchases are dematerialized via the Microsoft Store, or the use of the Xbox Game Pass. The latter is a quasi must-have if you own this console. It only keeps improving year following year, integrating more and more interesting titles, from the biggest triple A’s to small enticing indie games.
Less powerful, but ideal for playing without putting the high price
Inside the console, if it is equipped with the same processor, an AMD Zen 2, and an RDNA 2 graphics chip managing the ray tracing. However, it is less powerful since it has 4 TFlops instead of 12 for the Xbox Series X, and less RAM (10 GB instead of 16). The rendering definition is also lowered, for maximum 1440p instead of 4K UHD. In practice, we will often find ourselves in 1080p. On some games, however, we can reach 120 FPS.
The Series S is a great console for more casual gamers who own Xbox Game Pass or want to get into it. In addition, even if it is deprived of the 1 TB of storage that the Series X has, it still has a 512 GB SSD to accommodate your game library.
