The worst series of my coaching career was against them; Rahul Dravid with disclosure

Sports News

Rahul Dravid reveals that the worst series of his coaching career was against this team.

Rahul Dravid was appointed head coach of the Indian team in 2021, with his first assignment being the tour of South Africa. While he aimed to secure his first series victory, the team ended up losing the series 2-1.

The former player now reflects that the most challenging series of his coaching career was his inaugural assignment against South Africa.

“If you ask me what my lowest point was, I would cite the Test series in South Africa at the start of my career. We won the first Test match at Centurion, but subsequently lost the second and third Tests.

As you may know, Team India has never won a series in South Africa. It was a fantastic chance to secure a series victory, but some of our senior players were unavailable.

Rohit Sharma was injured. Yet, we were very close to success. We had significant opportunities in both Test matches. We could have set a respectable target and won the games, but South Africa performed excellently. They made a strong comeback in the fourth innings. Thus, not winning that series stands as the lowest point of my coaching career,’ said Dravid.

At the same time, India suffered defeat in the ODI series against Sri Lanka during the first assignment of the new coach Gautam Gambhir. This marked India’s first ODI series loss to Sri Lanka in 27 years. In the final match of the ODI series, India lost by 110 runs, being bowled out for 138 runs in just 26.1 overs, failing to chase down Sri Lanka’s total of 248 at the Premadasa Stadium.
