Metacritic has published its list with the worst games of 2022, a compilation that starts from a series of specific rules and that, as said medium has highlighted, only includes the worst valued version of a game in case it is available on various platforms. So, for example, if a game is available on PC and consoles it will only be listed once, and with the worst rated version.
Another important detail is that the list only takes into account professional media ratings, which means that it completely passes from the opinions of the users. That being said, we are going to enter to see the list with the worst games from 2022 according to Metacritic:
- POSTAL 4: No Regerts (PC) – 30
- CrossfireX (Xbox Series X) – 38
- Babylon’s Fall (PS5) – 41
- XEL (Switch) – 43
- Arc of Alchemist (Switch) – 46
- Zorro: The Chronicles (PS5) – 49
- The Last Oricru (Xbox Series X) – 50
- The Waylanders (PC) – 51
- Kamiwaza: Way of the Thief (PS4) – 52
- Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition (Switch) – 52
From our personal point of view, this list may seem more or less accurate, but the important thing is the contrast between the opinions of the media and those of the users, especially when we compare those assessments with those of other important sources.
I will give you an example, POSTAL 4: No Regerts is the worst rated game of 2022 according to the Metacritic list, but if we look at the ratings that the game has on Steam we see that these are “very positive” in recent times, and that in general they are “mostly positive”. The total number of ratings the game has received on Steam exceeds 8,000while Metacritic only takes into account 18 professional reviews. I believe that the numbers speak for themselves, and they put on the table the little value that this list has.
The truth is that I have never liked the model that Metacritic follows when assigning scores to games. Its reliability has also been questioned on more than one occasion.and as we have seen in this article there are reasons for this, in fact if you use the filtering tools to create personalized lists you will find more than one shocking result.
With this I do not mean that said means is not reliable, some valuations are, but others are not, and this is a problem when a user who lacks knowledge and criteria is blindly guided by those assessments. The differentiation of the scoring model, 0 out of 100 in the case of professional analysis and 0 out of 10 in the case of user opinions, is also another detail that should have been corrected.
