The worst comments from the 1000things community in 2023

2023-12-29 08:00:00

It’s hard to believe, but we as an online medium actually still receive letters from readers. Well, usually not in printed, handwritten form, as you would imagine. But in virtual form. You don’t need to go through the email program’s spam folder; just take a quick look at the Facebook comments. And sometimes they really have it all. Judging by some users, the past year was very exciting – because we excited them beyond measure. With our way of gendering, our way of writing, or our style in general. Admittedly, we didn’t originally expect the level of anger in some of the comments when we set ourselves the goal of providing our community with leisure inspiration. But we can deal with it and have channeled the anger into something productive. So here comes a best-of of the most absurd comments among our articles. Have fun and don’t be fooled!

Shiach can get pretty ugly

We actually didn’t expect this: that the spelling of the word “schiach” would cause bitter discussions. But here we are in a country that can even get upset regarding a fugue s in the word “Advent(s) calendar”, which is probably just our own fault. In any case, the article regarding the most beautiful places in Vienna regularly raises eyebrows:

Treat me where the sun never shines

Another word that gets people’s minds going in Austria: delicious. Or more specifically: find something tasty. It’s not possible, as a surprising number of people in our community have their toenails stretched up to their hairline, the vaccine gets to the point where it becomes medically unsafe, and they jump out of their skin until they’re nothing more than muscle mass. The reactions are not just outraged, but outraged with an intensity that always surprises us. By the way, we’ve already looked into the whole thing in more detail – the report regarding the grant that the word delicious brings with it is by far the most controversial of the 1000things stories.

Gender until you see stars

The fact that the gender debate is an emotional one was less surprising. Everyone really has an opinion regarding gender – and so do we, as you can see! Nevertheless, we continue to receive good and somewhat less good advice from the community.

Vegan or not at all

Veganism is also not necessarily an issue that unites the fronts. Especially in Austria, where it is considered a crime of the first order to prepare Wiener Schnitzel with the wrong meat. Or – Goddess forbid – with sauce!!1!!!self. Some jump at the mere mention of vegan tips, others jump out of their skin when vegans adopt their carnivorous terms in the absence of a catchier wording. But it’s best to read for yourself.

From the “Other” category

Some topics cannot really be clustered; the anger is so random that no pattern can be recognized. From picking strawberries to giving tips, everything seems to annoy some people.

While some sit on the palm tree, others sit in front of the raclette table and enjoy the holidays. We hope you can count yourself in the second group. Happy New Year and Happy New Year!
