The World’s Fastest Speeding Ticket: Driver Caught at 413 km/h in Belgium

Speeding is a constant on roads around the world. The fines derived from this attitude are many, but there are cases that attract attention for their own reasons. The Belgian police have just made public what has been recorded as the highest speed ticket in the world: a driver was traveling at 413 km/h.

The events took place in Belgium in 2022, but until now the information had not been revealed. The security body has not made public data on the place where they occurred, nor the identity of the offender, nor the car he was driving.

The police information indicates that he was hunted by a mobile radar, whose snapshot shows a speed of 388 km/h. However, applying the error margins of the device, it is calculated that the real speed at which it might circulate was 413 km/h.

With such figures, the events must have occurred on a motorway or dual carriageway, since there is no material space on any other type of road to reach such a speed. In these cases, the legal speed limit in Belgium is 120 km/h, so the offender would be more than tripling it.

At this speed, the car advances at 114 meters per second, that is, more than a football field, so the chances of the driver’s reaction to any unforeseen event are minimal. In addition, in case of reacting in time and braking hard, it is necessary practically a kilometer of distance to be able to stop it completely.

Nor has it been revealed which vehicle was sanctioned, but the list of options is not very extensive, since few cars have gone on sale in recent years that are capable of exceeding 400 km/h at the top.

They all belong to luxury brands and hypercars, only available to people with a healthy bank account. Thus, the Bugatti Chiron and its different variants can circulate at that rate, but also its predecessor, the Bugatti Veyron. Some Koenigsegg creations are around that figure, the Hennessey Venom surpasses it and the SSC Tuatara too.
