The British educational publication Times Higher Education (THE) released the latest world university rankings today (12th), with five Hong Kong universities ranked among the world’s top 100, the most on record. Among them, the University of Hong Kong performed the best, ranking 31st in the world.
In the “2023 World University Rankings”, involving a total of 1,799 universities in 104 countries and regions, it is also the largest ever. The top ten universities in the world include Oxford University in the UK for 7 consecutive years, Harvard University in the US at No. 2, Cambridge University in the UK for two places, tied for third with Stanford University in the US; Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US at No. 5, California in the US The Institute of Technology dropped from 2nd to 6th, Princeton University, University of California, Berkeley, and Yale University in the United States maintained 7th, 8th, and 9th respectively; the 10th place was Imperial College London.
As for Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong ranked 31st in the world, down slightly by 1 place year-on-year, and still ranked 4th in Asia. The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ranked 45th and 58th this year, up 4 and 8 places respectively. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University jumped 12 places to 79 in the world, and the City University of Hong Kong also ranked 99 among the top 100 universities in the world for the first time; while Hong Kong Baptist University ranked 501 to 600 in the world. In terms of other Asian universities, Tsinghua University and Peking University ranked 16th and 17th respectively, among which Tsinghua University was awarded the “Asia’s No. 1” institution; the National University of Singapore ranked 19th in the world and 3rd in Asia.
