The world of radio – particularly sports – is used to multiple changes during the summer. How many times do we see the new fall grid and say to ourselves: “there’s a lot of change this year”?
The world of radio is like this.
Except that sometimes, changes are made in the middle of the season. It’s rare, but it happens. The proof: we learned in the last few hours that Paul Houde hosted the latest edition of his morning show The Morning Club on BPM Sports.

As of next Monday, he will no longer be alongside Gilbert Delorme, Anthony Desaulniers and Katherine Huet when the microphones open at 6:00 a.m.
Even though people have notably speak of JP Bertrand, Max Lalonde and Evelyne Audet in recent weeks, everything indicates that it is from now on Gilbert Delorme who will direct the show and that Anthony Desaulniers will see his place on the air improved. The listener had also noticed that they ate up more minutes – to speak in hockey language – for a few days.
Ray Lalonde, who has gotten into the habit of entering the studio before his column and not leaving immediately following the end of his segment, will continue to support the rest of the team between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
The various collaborators present since the start of the season in the Club du Matin will remain the same.
Trustworthy people have confirmed to me that there will also be no other changes – for now at least – to the daily BPM Sports schedule.
Paul Houde, 69, was in his 49th year of radio. It is important to note that he is not leaving the radio world or announcing his retirement. There will also be no separation between the host and RNC Media as we plan to evaluate in the coming weeks on Laurier Avenue West how we might continue this collaboration.
A return week-end ? Daily chronicles? Weekly? We’ll see.
The $1,000 question now: why did Paul Houde and BPM Sports decide to change their professional relationship in the middle of October, when the radio season began barely two months ago?
No, the ratings weren’t there, but that’s not what justified such a rapid change. Animate a show sports this early in the morning has always been a challenge and the bosses at Paul Houde know that patience is required in order to establish a listening habit.
Paul Houde has quite simply noted over the last few weeks that the requirements of the job of morning man sports are huge. The nights are short and the energy level is sometimes low. He had underestimated the scale of the challenge and would therefore have asked for his commitments to be revised, which the bosses might not have objected to.
Paul Fern notably participated in the filming of the special show Les Boys, 25th anniversary this week, which will be broadcast on December 17. Having such commitments – often in the evening – can quickly derail the pace of life of any person. morning man.
Be careful, I am told: some will claim that there are health reasons behind all this, but I have been assured and confirmed that this is not the case.
Prolongation
We wish to BPM Sports/91,9 Sports to find its formula Magic in the morning since in the space of 16 months, we will have had LP Guy, Jean-Charles Lajoie, Paul Houde, then Louis Jean Gilbert Delorme asanchor man. And I’m not talking regarding the multiple summer replacements.
Damn I have respect for all those people who set their dial to 3:30 in the morning during the night…
And damn I have respect for all the work accomplished by Paul Houde over the years. He can leave the morning sports entertainment with his head (very) held high.
