The World Bank takes “good note” of the concerns of the transitional government

The Prime Minister, Me Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, granted an audience to Maïmouna Mbow Fam, the resident representative of the World Bank in Burkina Faso, this Monday, March 13, 2023 in Ouagadougou.

«It was first a courtesy visit because since his appointment as Prime Minister, the World Bank has not had the opportunity to meet him, but a visit that quickly turned into a working session.

The objective was to inquire about new transition priorities, discuss the World Bank’s work program, also the concerns we have in the context of the implementation of our projects and programs, in particular the insecurity which somewhat slows down the execution of the programmes.

We have also taken careful note of the government’s concerns. And the Prime Minister insisted a lot on the fight against terrorism. Because to be able to even develop a country, there must be peace.said Maïmouna Mbow Fam, resident representative of the World Bank in Burkina Faso.

She confided that their discussions also focused on the agenda of reconciliation and the rebuilding of the Burkinabè state. “These priorities dovetail perfectly with our strategy for the West Africa region because a fundamental pillar of the World Bank’s strategy is the restoration of the social contract. Ensure that trust can be established between the State and its citizens and that the State is there to respond to the concerns of the population and protect them “, she said.

She recalled that her institution has a large portfolio in Burkina Faso with around 27 projects for a total budget of more than 3 billion US dollars.
