The Citizen Panel for the Climate presented Sunday morning in Namur the 168 recommendations resulting from the participatory process it has carried out since the spring of 2021. These proposals are part of the overall objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55%. greenhouse in Wallonia by 2030.
The panel, made up of around fifty Walloon citizens, was created following the Walloon government’s desire to involve citizens in the revision of its Air-Climate-Energy Plan. “It is a question of revising upwards the ambitions of this plan in view of the climate emergency“, recalled Sunday in introduction Philippe Henry, the Walloon Minister of Climate.
The recommendations were formulated according to nine axes of intervention. They were also prioritized according to their impact and their supposed acceptability with the population.
In terms of mobilityrecommendations range from train fare reductionto the development of a integrated transport network passing through the removal of fuel cards. But also the reduction of the speed on the highway to 100Km/h maximum.
In terms ofhabitat there are elements such as developing resource sharingtrade the concrete for wood whenever possible and tax new buildings to finance renovation of empty buildings.
In terms of consumptionthe proposals focus on the organization at European level of transport circuits for consumer goods or even the introduction of strong environmental and social commitments in trade agreements.
In terms ofteaching and educationthe citizen panel insists on the need to modify school reference systems and to integrate the concepts related to the environment.
The 168 recommendations will now be analyzed by the Walloon administration. Those that will be selected will feed into the future Air-Climate-Energy Plan, which must be adapted by the end of the year.
