Created in 1978, the wooded park of the Port was nothing more than a neglected place in recent years, more frequented by hoodlums than by families in search of serenity. Because it might not continue to be the town’s black spot any longer, the city decided to reclaim this 17-hectare space and, following a year and a half of work, it has been transformed into a green haven where the weather is good. spend time.
Among the developments carried out: the creation of a 500 square meter water games area, as well as a pedestrian path and a 1 kilometer cycle path, the installation of kiosks and picnic tables picnic, the renovation of the toilets, the planting of 150 trees… and, to ensure the safety of visitors, the daily presence of 10 mediators in conjunction with the municipal police and the national police. Now, the park also has 108 public lighting poles and is fenced and closed by 12 gates. The total cost of this work? 3.5 million euros, including 396,000 from the State and 2.2 million from the France Relance plan.
This new space, refurbished, was inaugurated yesterday by Mayor Olivier Hoarau, in the presence of a few citizens, but also of the municipal youth council, which symbolically represented all of the city’s youth. Because it is mainly for young people from Porto, who will shape the future of the town, that all these developments have been thought out.
