Anchal (Kollam) ∙ A woman who broke a gold necklace weighing three and a half rupees belonging to a bus passenger was chased away by locals and handed over to the police. Maina (50), a resident of Kozjanjampara, Palakkad, was arrested. The incident took place at Anappuzhakal on the Anchal-Kadaikkal road. The court remanded the accused.
Maina befriended Vanitha, a native of Anappuzhaikkal, who boarded the bus from Anchal. Maina slyly broke the necklace of the woman who started to get down at the elephant stop. But the necklace slipped and fell down. Seeing this, Myna ran away from the bus as her fellow passengers started shouting.
They surrounded the locals who rushed following them. After running for 2 km through the alleys, Maina hid in the washroom of a house but was picked up by the locals. The conversation was in Malayalam mixed with Tamil. Recently, many women’s gold ornaments have been lost during bus journey in Anchal area. The police informed that it is difficult to identify the thieves who dress well and behave politely on buses and need to be vigilant.
