Chandigarh: A police team brought out a thirty-three-year-old woman and her son, who managed to stay inside their house for three years to escape from Covid. The woman remained in ‘seclusion’ with her ten-year-old son in a rented house in Chakarpur, Haryana, fearing Covid.
The police team, health department officials and child welfare committee members arrived and broke the main door of the house and brought out the young woman named Munmun Maji and her son. Gurugram Civil Surgeon Doctor Virender Yadav informed that the woman has mental problems and the woman and her son were admitted to a hospital in Rohtak.
The information came to light on February 17 when Munmunn’s husband Sujan Maji approached the police seeking help. Sujan is an engineer in a private company. Due to the fear of the spread of covid, she started living alone inside her house along with her husband. When the Covid restrictions were first relaxed in 2020, the husband, who had gone to work, was not allowed inside the previous house.
Sujan spent the first few days with friends and relatives and tried to persuade his wife but failed. Without any change, he rented another house nearby where his wife and son lived and started living there. Communication with his wife and son was only through video calls. Sujan paid house rent, electricity bill etc. without fail. He bought the necessary things for his wife and son and left them outside the house.
Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar said that when Sujan initially sought help, it was hard to believe, but following talking to Munmun and his son through video call and seeing the condition of their house, things became clear. Then steps were taken to get them out and treat them as soon as possible.
Hadn’t gone outside or been in the sun for three years. Sujan was happy following getting his wife and son out. Sujan also shared the hope that his family life will be like before.
