The wolf network of the Public Service of Wallonia went to the site on December 25 to collect DNA samples as quickly as possible from the remains of such a Christmas feast. three weeks later, analyzes confirmed that it was the work of one or more wolves of German-Polish origin. “The analyzes take place in two stages, explains Nicolas Yernaux, spokesperson for the SPW, the first is intended to verify whether it is a wolf or not. This second examination will confirm whether the same wolf is the author of the two attacks of December 24 and 25. Although it is unlikely, the two attacks are not necessarily the work of a single carnivore.
The wolf is often passing through our region. His passage was confirmed in 2022 at Ciney and more recently, in February, at Mettet. Very durable, he is capable of covering phenomenal distances, several hundred kilometers in the space of two weeks.
