Today is the desired day The Witcher 3: Wild HuntThe much-touted free next-gen update is arriving on PC and consoles, but it’s not going well for many of us on PC. People have already taken to TwitterAnd redditAnd Steam With their tales of performance issues since the update arrived, Steam reviews have claimed it caused everything from reduced frame rates to HUD issues. The RPS Treehouse has also had a problem since installing the 4.0 update as well, getting very inconsistent frame rates at the new max settings even with the RTX 3080 unless ray tracing and other new graphical features are turned off. Hardware editor James and vid bud Liam will have more on this later, but for now, here’s how to avoid the next-gen update spoiling your Witcher 3 experience, and keep the Roach running nicely and smoothly.
anyone with Which version The Witcher 3 should be able to download the next 4.0 gen update starting today, but we recommend sticking with the classic version until it’s patched. To do this, you will need to switch to the classic branch, which is available on Steam and GOG.
on me gogHead to Settings and select Manage installation. Then choose Configure, and select Classic to revert back to it from the Beta Branches drop-down list.
on me Steam, go to Properties, then Beta, and select the same Classic branch from the drop-down list. This should allow you to roll the game back to version 1.32.
This may seem far from today’s next-gen 4.0 patch, but 1.32 was the last update for the PC version of The Witcher 3, so it should be pretty stable to run.
I started with my copy on GOG and avoided updating, and had no problems running the game. This seems to be the best option for now, as trying to back out of the game following installing the update can make things more difficult.
With the 4.0 update installed for the PC version, some gamers were experiencing extremely low frame rates. Single player posts on The Witcher subreddit Calling the game “unplayable,” they said they were getting 100-120fps when walking around Novograd in 4K yesterday. After the update, that dropped to 45fps even with updated drivers. The RTX 3080 is here. I went to Novigrad with RT. “I was probably under 30fps regardless of resolution,” said one commenter on the post. “It’s incredible.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Full Edition is now available SteamAnd gogand the epic game storebut yeah, it’s probably worth waiting for now until CD Projekt Red releases another patch.
