Newcastle were looking to strengthen their front line following prominent striker Callum Wilson suffered a calf injury and was out for eight weeks.
Coach Eddie Howe said: “Chris is an important deal for us at the perfect timing and I am happy that we can finish his contract quickly. He is a great danger in attack and I like his personality and physical abilities and he has a lot of experience in the Premier League, he will fit in very much with the squad.”
