The winning streak continues! Sigma U19 – Liberec U19 1:0

The 19th team played their first game after three weeks. Coach Michal Kovář’s wards did not leave the winning streak during that time, and in Saturday’s game of the 7th round of the national senior youth league, they won their seventh win! Štěpán Lorenc scored the only goal of the match against Liberec in the 11th minute.

Right at the beginning of the match, Capka got into the penalty area with ferocity, but before he could finish, the ball was caught by goalkeeper Zachariáš. A moment later, the Hanáci struck. The Liberec defender lifted the cross from the corner flag, but Kolařík returned the ball in front of the goal and Štěpán Lorenc headed it into the net – 1:0 for Sigma.

Subsequently, Macharáček aimed inaccurately, Drábek also fired a dangerous shot before the end of the first half, but the goalkeeper from Liberec saved the bouncing shot.

Slovan had two chances in the first half, but both attempts went wide of the goal and Berka did not have to intervene against them.

After the change of sides, there were fewer chances for both sides. In one of them, a Liberec player shot over the goal. Drábek could have increased Sigma’s lead after a corner kick, who got to the rebound, but his hard shot on the goal line was stopped by Slovan’s goalkeeper.

Sigma thus defeated Liberec by the narrowest possible margin of 1:0 and is still in the lead in the table of the national senior youth league.

Already on Wednesday, September 25, coach Kovář’s wards will finish the postponed match of the 6th round in Jablonec, and next Saturday they will play in Opava.

Evaluation of coach Michal Kovář:

“The win did not come easily. Liberec was a very tough opponent. We had a good start to the game, already in the 11th minute we scored a goal from a corner kick. We were pleased. Otherwise, the first half was not good from our side. I was mainly not satisfied with the transition phase. We managed to get the ball up, but it was immediately given back. We invented things that were unnecessarily complicated. Because we were losing the ball, Liberec went into an open defense and had dangerous counterattacks. In the first half, we dragged on the short end, it was not good at all.”

“We talked about it in the cabin. We wanted to keep the ball more, not lose it as much. We did both. We improved the game in the second half. We also had some chances, it was the result of that improvement. It can be said that we didn’t let Liberec have another chance and we managed to play out the end, even though Slovan had a lot of effort to equalize. We were attentive defensively and defended the match with zero. The second half was definitely better.”
