For the past few days, the Wii Shop Channel has been experiencing major problems, it seems impossible to access the digital store.
On startup, you will likely see a blank screen. If you stick around long enough, you might see an error code appear. Unfortunately, there is nothing else to do but manually return to the home menu. Many will probably regard the situation as unimportant. After all, we’ve had two console generations since the Wii, Nintendo has since released the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch – the latter of which is Nintendo’s current focus (and the focus of many gamers).
The Wii Shop Channel has been technically closed since 2019, but those who purchased content before have still been able to access their past purchases through the infamous Shop Channel. This is no longer possible at the moment. Nintendo said earlier downloads would also stop “at some point”, although there was no announcement of a specific date. As for the current status of the Wii Shop Channel, the situation is unclear. It is certainly possible that she will return in a few days. But looking at Nintendo’s maintenance page can’t find anything about the issues or when it will be back in service. We will keep an eye on the situation in the future.
Last month, Nintendo announced that it would end purchases from the Wii U and 3DS eShop in March 2023.
