The Wi-Fi connection of the potential iPhone 17 is causing ink to flow

On this holiday, we have just learned that Apple would have difficulty designing its own Wi-Fi modem. The latter, which echoes a similar component but dedicated to 5G, was expected to appear for the first time under the hood of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. Devices which will probably see the light of day in September 2025, as is often the case with the American mobile collection.

When Apple sets out to develop in-house hardware, the result is often very good. On Macs, in particular, Apple silicon chips are among the fastest on the market. These are regularly praised by critics, despite their operating system which still remains too closed for some. But for the publisher, this is a good way to guarantee more cybersecurity to users – which is not so wrong.

The transition is underway

According to the media DigiTimes, which reports the affair once again, Apple has not abandoned its proprietary Wi-Fi chip project. It is apparently only a question of delay, as this happens more than rarely with the company. Led by Tim Cook since 2011, the group notably failed to release the AirPower wireless charging mat, which was still in the news quite recently.

So what to expect between now and then? For our source of the day, Apple would simply continue to trust one of its major historical partners on the connectivity side. This is Broadcom, known for its wide range of semiconductors present throughout the world. The company is now worth more than $520 billion on the Wall Street stock exchange, which however still positions it far behind the sector leader: TSMC. The latter equips the processors of Macs, but also of iPhones, iPads and even AirPods wireless headphones.

Several Apple technologies use Wi-Fi

Let’s say it without batting an eye: today, the iPhone 15 Pro is already very fast when it comes to connecting via Wi-Fi. Compatible with the Wi-Fi 6E standard like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, titanium smartphones, however, benefit from some tools that are not found among the competition. Apple notably imagined AirDrop, which, via Wi-Fi, allows you to exchange a file between your devices in just a few seconds. We can also cite the case of AirPlay, for music playback.
