The Western Pacific Region reported the majority (158/293; 77.2%) of the cases in the last three weeks (July 17 to August 8), due to the large increase in China. From June 28 to August 8, eight countries have recorded an increase in cases compared to the previous three weeks, with China (140 vs. 59; 140%) and Portugal (37 vs. 12; 201%) leading the way. .

As of August 9, 2023, new cases had been reported in the past 21 days, the maximum incubation period for the disease, in 15 of the 113 affected countries, five from each of the Americas, Europe, and Pacific regions. Since 1 January 2022, a cumulative total of 89,308 mpox cases, 152 of them fatal, have been reported to WHO from 113 countries in the six WHO Regions.

The ten countries that have reported the highest cumulative number of cases worldwide are the United States (30,446), Brazil (10,967), Spain (7,560), France (4,150), Colombia (4,090), Mexico (4,045), Peru (3,812 ), the United Kingdom (3,771), Germany (3,694) and Canada (1,496). Together, these countries account for 82.9 percent of reported cases worldwide.
