Washington – White House spokesman John Kirby said yesterday, Sunday, that US President Joe Biden is “sympathetic” to the pro-Palestine protests, calling for them to remain peaceful in nature.
Kirby added in an interview with ABC News: “The president understands and respects the fact that the war in Gaza arouses strong emotions, and as he has repeatedly stated, we respect the right to peaceful protest, where citizens should be able to freely exchange opposing views and opinions in public places. Provided that it is expressed in peaceful ways.”
He added that the American administration condemns any speech aimed at inciting hatred once morest Jews in light of the current situation.
In recent days, many prestigious American universities have witnessed a hotbed of escalating anger and protests over the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip and the high number of deaths and injuries among Palestinian civilians, which has reached more than 34,000 dead and 77,000 wounded.
American media reported the arrest of more than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators last week at Columbia University, and at least 45 people at Yale University on Monday during pro-Palestinian protests.
Columbia University witnessed widespread protests to denounce the violations of the Israeli army, and to pressure the university to withdraw its financial investments from companies and institutions that support Israel.
