The rapid development of AI like ChatGPT, which is already in its fourth version, may seem worrying. A specialist in the field, considered the “father of AI”, comes from elsewhere to express concern on this subject. But this time it is the turn of the American government to take measures. This one will invest more than a hundred million dollars in order to develop a secure AI.
The White House has announced additional funding dedicated to the development of responsible artificial intelligence. These measures include an investment of 140 million dollars (more than 125 million euros) from the National Science Foundation to launch seven new institutes dedicated to AI research. This addition will bring the total number of dedicated installations to 25 to AI in the country.
Artificial intelligence: the United States wants to regulate AI
The announcement was made yesterday at the White House, during a consultation led by Vice President Kamala Harris. The press release states: “These measures build on the administration’s strong record of leadership to ensure that technology improves the lives of the American peopleand open new perspectives in the federal government’s ongoing efforts to promote a coherent and comprehensive approach to risks and opportunities related to AI“.
The first AI regulations are recent. In effect, the first steps were taken in October last by the Biden administration. One of the most notable American initiatives concerns AI-generated works of art, capable of win photography contests. Officially, these cannot be protected by copyright.
Kamala Harris precise ainsi : “As I told the CEOs of companies at the forefront of American AI innovation today, the private sector has an ethical, moral and legal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its products. And every business must comply with existing laws to protect the american people.“
