The “war” between SYRIZA and PASOK for second place is at an end 2024-04-03 07:15:35

Can or not the cooperation of the four parties continue and reach the point of co-operation, before or after the European elections?

These two political questions were caused by the joint initiative of SYRIZA, PASOK, New Left and Freedom of Navigation against the government, which, as revealed by the SYRIZA MP Nikos Pappas, they worked together for a long time behind the scenes to reach an agreement.

Contrary to what has been broadcast recently by Koumoundourou and Harilaou Trikoupis about “informal coexistence that can be translated into a frontal scheme”, the coexistence of SYRIZA and PASOK is not a goal. Neither does him Stefanou Kasselakis nor his Nikos Androulakis who know that the battle between them in the European elections will have only one winner, with the loser being…lost.

Undermining

It is no coincidence that the… truce was undermined from the first hour, mainly from the side of SYRIZA (with interventions by Kasselakis and Pappas), while the next day’s debate in the Parliament mainly finds SYRIZA and PASOK, but secondarily all four parties between opponents, with conflicting goals and aspirations.

Stefanos Kasselakis considers Nikos Androulakis, PASOK and also the party staff of SYRIZA who dominated the five-year period 2015-2019 and is now in favor of the cooperation of the “progressive forces” – including Alexis Tsipras– as easy opponents for him Kyriakos Mitsotakisfrom whom he must distance himself.

This is the main reason why he did everything to undermine the joint initiative of the four parties. He attempted the impressive “emptying” of the initiative with his article in “EfSyn”, knowing what was later revealed by Nikos Pappas: That the initiative was not of Nikos Androulakis, but of the four parties, SYRIZA, PASOK, New Left and Pleusi Eleftherias, who were in behind-the-scenes discussions for days, so that on the occasion of the Tempe tragedy they could take advantage of the climate.

“Who told you that there were no debates without seeing the light of day between the opposition parties? The thought had already matured. These don’t happen from one night to the next,” Nikos Pappas also said – along the lines of Kasselakis. And once there was an uproar, he allegedly tried to reform, but everyone had gotten the… hint.

Two reasons

The now experienced Nikos Pappas did not make a mistake. In agreement with Stefanos Kasselakis, he revealed the background of the talks for two reasons.

» Firstlybecause he does not agree with the opinion of consultation and dialogue with PASOK either.

” SecondlySYRIZA had to stop Harilaou Trikoupis’ attempt to present Nikos Androulakis – right after the shock in the polls – as the unofficial head of the entire opposition.

As far as the three-day debate in the Parliament is concerned, until the Pappa “bombshell” about the behind-the-scenes pre-negotiation between SYRIZA, PASOK, New Left and Plefsis Eleftherias, everything was going as expected for the president of PASOK.

It appeared as an institutional and informal official opposition to the “Trumpist” Kasselakis who requested international observers and wished the European prosecutor to bring down the Greek government, i.e. to overthrow the will of the Greek people, presenting Greece as a third world country and not as an EU country. E., asking for international observers in the elections.

On the one hand, SYRIZA offered him the signatures he needed to table the motion of no confidence and was diverted politically and institutionally, driving away the voters of the center. And on the other hand, Kyriakos Mitsotakis faced him as a main opponent in the Parliament.

Everything showed that the “wounded” profile of Mr. Androulakis would improve somewhat after the three-day debate in the Parliament and in the end he could reap the fruits of his appearance as the informal leader of the opposition, achieving a crucial blow to the real opponent in the upcoming European elections , Stefanos Kasselakis.

However, this is how things would have gone, if Nikos Pappas had not revealed the background and the methodology that preceded it.

Valuation

Now, Harilaou Trikoupi to positively assess the three days in the Parliament refers to the resignation of the two top executives of Maximos, but when they talk about the next steps, they only refer to the continuation of the tough opposition against the government and not to the possibility of continuing the consultation with the SYRIZA. However, they are waiting for all this to be reflected in the next polls.

However, they do not invest either in Koumoundourou or in Harilaou Trikoupi in the continuation of their cooperation, nor in the cooperation with New Left and Pleussi Eleftherias.

Rhetoric… Trump adopted by Kasselakis

THE Stefanos Kasselakis he also reportedly believes that he must seek the apolitical and lumpen vote in order to take second place in the European elections and leave behind the Nico Androulakis and PASOK. He believes that he should act in Greece as Trump acts in the USA. If he politically survives the battle of the European elections – having already survived the congress where Tsipras tried to “oust” him but failed – he will attempt to pass this line and this perception to his party, even if he has to change his name.

Tsipras

But he will have a great opponent Alexis Tsipras, who does not sign a contract with one of Europe’s largest companies in political communication, to… privatize. Alexis Tsipras is working systematically for his comeback after the European elections and will do everything he can to ensure that the conditions are favorable for his venture, which will aim to unite parties and movements of the center-left under his leadership. And he knows that in order to do this, neither SYRIZA nor PASOK must do well in the European elections, but at the same time the sum of these parties and movements must approach the percentage of New Democracy.

These are the main reasons why, from Koumoundourou’s side, the SYRIZA-PASOK alliance is not going to proceed.

» Firstlythe strategic goal for SYRIZA is the defeat of PASOK in the European elections, which will nullify the goal of Nikos Androulakis to be the main opponent of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in view of the national elections of 2027 and possibly throw PASOK into a new crisis and search for leadership .

” Secondly, within SYRIZA there are two strong lines on the issue, which will clash fiercely in the run-up to the European elections. Kasselakis’ line against the cooperation of the parties of the “progressive arc” and Tsipras’ line in favor of the cooperation of the parties of the so-called “progressive arc”.

It “radicalizes” it Androulakis is PASOK

In Charilaou Trikoupis, they believe about Mr. Kasselakis what he said about him from the floor of the Parliament Kyriakos Mitsotakis. That is to say, he is an agnostic who speaks nonsense. They estimate that many SYRIZA voters believe the same about Mr. Kasselakis and that is why the president of PASOK, in his attempt to reach out to SYRIZA voters as well, is “Syrizizing PASOK”, as he was told from the floor of the Parliament Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This is not an easy exercise for Mr. Androulakis.

» First, because he himself does not believe in such a turn, but resorts to it to face the poll pressure which is collapsing his profile.

” Secondlybecause if he continues as PASOK which is trying to become SYRIZA, he has to face – in addition to the many voters of his party – a strong group of parliamentarians and executives who share common concerns and made their appearance in the bill for the operation of non-state universities.
