The Walloon Region Drought Cell met this followingnoon to take stock of the situation following weeks without rain. No strong measures yet, but rather precautionary measures to save water as much as possible. The situation will be reassessed in 15 days.
In Bousval, in Walloon Brabant, Thierry has only one desire: to fill his swimming pool. But with the drought, it is now recommended that he use his 75,000 liters of water during off-peak hours, mainly from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
“It will take regarding two days. And since it does not flow very quickly, because I do not have a large flow, it takes quite a long time. I imagine that it will be necessary to double or even triple the filling time “, says Thierry. Goal ? Lighten the distribution load. Same instruction for rainwater cisterns. “When it’s full, if we don’t water all the time, if it’s not hot all the time, we hold the season”, says Thierry.
In the catchment areas where the areas are shallow, the next few days promise to be difficult for several municipalities in the province of Luxembourg and South Namur. Kayaking is even already prohibited on the Viroin.
“For the moment, there is a beginning of the section which is prohibited for kayaking. Some may have heard of the Lesse. For the moment, this is not the case, it is still open to kayak traffic, but you have to be very vigilant”, explains Stéphanie Ernoux, communications officer at the Wallonia Regional Crisis Center.
In the forest, the drought cell has not issued a traffic ban, but recommends to remain extremely careful and not to exceed the red flag installed in the Hautes Fagnes. A new assessment of the drought in Wallonia is scheduled in two weeks.
