After a padlocked match, Wydad Casablanca did the job on Saturday, qualifying for the semi-final of the Champions League at the expense of Algerian club CR Belouizdad in front of nearly 45,000 of its supporters.
Yet it was the Algiers club that launched hostilities from the first minutes of the first period. In the 15th minute, Chameddine Nesakh almost surprised WAC with a headed ball, deflected by Ahmed Reda Tagnaouit. After half an hour of play, the WAC players started to come out of their entrenchment to challenge the Belouizdad defense, but their offensive actions lacked realism and the finish was not there.
Determined to take their revenge, the Algerian players multiplied the incursions, without managing to find the fault. Despite pressure from CR Belouizdad forwards, WAC managed to keep their nets intact at the end of the first period. After the break, WAC returned to the pitch with more attacking pretensions. El Moutaraji did not fire his shot very well, missing a great opportunity to open the scoring (48′). After this first opportunity for the Reds, the two teams surrendered in quick succession, without managing to materialize their actions.
A few minutes from the end of the match, Chabab Belouizdad came very close to scoring the goal, but the post deflected the ball from Karim El Aribi’s head, saving WAC from a killer goal at the end of the match. The last minutes of the match were very tense, with Chabab Belouizdad’s goalkeeper being sent off, but in the end WAC managed to impose the draw and qualify for the semi-final of the Champions League for the fourth time in a row, where he will find the Angolans of Petro Atlético.
