The volume of cargo handled in Ventspils decreased by a quarter

In the first quarter of 2024, 1.471 million tons of cargo were sent from the port of Ventspils, which is 19.4% less than in the same period last year, and the volume of cargo received decreased by 33.2%, amounting to 877,700 tons.

In the first three months of this year, 1.041 million tons of bulk cargo were handled in the terminals of the port of Ventspils, which is 2.3% less, followed by liquid cargo handled in the amount of 898,800 tons, which is 37.3% less than in the same period a year earlier , and the size of general cargo handled decreased by 36.2% and amounted to 408,900 tons.

In the first three months of this year, 735,100 tons of oil products were handled in the terminals of the port of Ventspils, which is 45.3% less than in the same period in 2023, coal – 457,600 tons, which is 18.8% less, and cargo ro, or “roll on/roll off”, 325,200 tons were handled, which is 36.8% less.

As reported, a total of 10.418 million tons of cargo were handled in the terminals of the port of Ventspils last year, which is 29.3% less than in 2022, including 3.139 million tons of cargo were handled at the port in the first three months of last year .

In terms of cargo transshipment volume, the port of Ventspils is the second largest port in Latvia.
