The Volkswagen Group achieved a strong increase in its sales in 2023

The Volkswagen Group increased its deliveries in 2023 by 12%, to 9.24 million vehicles.

All regions contributed to this growth, with Europe (+19.7%) and North America (+17.9%) being the main drivers. China, the Group’s largest market, grew by 1.6% despite the difficult market environment.

The Volkswagen Group expanded its market share in Europe as well as North and South America, thus also increasing slightly worldwide.

Almost all brands recorded growth, in some cases substantial. SEAT/CUPRA achieved the largest increase in the passenger car segment, with an increase of 34.6%, while MAN led the truck segment, with an increase of 37.1%.

At the same time, the Volkswagen Group successfully continued its transformation and delivered 771,100 fully electric vehicles. This corresponds to an increase of 34.7% compared to the previous year.

The share of all-electric vehicle deliveries increased to 8.3 percent, up from 6.9 percent in 2022.

«We are very satisfied with the market success of our strong brands and models. It is positive that all the big brands and all the regions are growing. We are decisively promoting the transformation. In 2023, we deliver 35% more fully electric vehicles to customers. This year we are also well positioned with numerous attractive new products, despite the current challenges,” says Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group.

Hildegard Wortmann, Member of the Executive Committee and Head of Group Sales, adds: “Last year we achieved solid delivery results given the geopolitical and macroeconomic situation.

We grew above the total market and slightly expanded our global market share. “We would like to thank our customers and retail partners, as well as the entire global team, for this success.”

Deliveries in the regions developed as follows in 2023:

In Europa, deliveries especially increased by 19.7%, up to 3,774,500 vehicles. Of them, 472,400 had fully electric propulsion, 34.2% more than the previous year. The share of BEVs in total deliveries rose to 12.5%, compared to 11.2% in 2022. The Group once once more became the leader in the BEV market and gained market share in this segment.

In Europa Occidental, the growth was even more pronounced, at 20.6%. Here, 3,271,000 customers received a vehicle from the Group’s brand. In Germany, the Volkswagen Group’s domestic market, deliveries increased by 15.1%, to 1,185,100 vehicles. In Central and Eastern Europe 503,500 vehicles were delivered, corresponding to a growth of 13.9%.

In North Americathe Volkswagen Group also significantly increased its deliveries, by 17.9%, to 993,100 vehicles.

With 713,100 vehicles, EU. represented the largest share. This corresponds to an increase of 13.0% compared to the previous year. Fully electric models were also a major driver of growth, increasing 60.8% to 71,000 vehicles. The percentage of deliveries of BEVs thus increased to 10%, compared to 7% the previous year.

In South America, the Group delivered 9.4% more cars to its customers than the previous year, a total of 518,200 vehicles. He contributed above all to this Brazil, where 398,300 models were delivered. This represents an increase of 18.0% compared to the previous year.

The region Pacific Asia recorded an overall increase in deliveries of 2.3%, up to 3,594,500 vehicles.

In its largest market, China, the Group achieved growth of 1.6%, up to 3,236,100 vehicles, despite the difficult market environment. All-electric models also drove growth, rising 23.2% to 191,800 vehicles. The BEV delivery share thus reached 5.9% following 4.9% the previous year. A total of 75,700 Volkswagen ID.3 vehicles were delivered to customers, making it one of the best-selling all-electric models in the world’s largest automotive market. A total of 61,700 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles were also delivered there, making it one of the top 5 best-selling electric compact SUV models.
