The cultural, artistic, and popular circles in Iraq and the Arab world mourned the great Iraqi singer Yas Khader, the author of the famous songs “Han wa Anah Hann”, “Taybin”, “Al-Banouj”, “Al-Rail”, “Hamad”, “Al-Mukair”, and others. The songs that remained ingrained in the minds of Iraqis and Arabs of all walks of life, who left our world at dawn yesterday, Saturday (September 2, 2023), following a terminal illness at the age of 85.

The artist, Yas Khader, whose full name is Yas Khader Ali Al Husseini, is an Iraqi singer, born in the city of Najaf (central Iraq) in 1938. He is considered one of the most prominent singers of the seventies generation in Iraq. He began his artistic career in the late sixties of the last century, and his first song recorded for radio was the song (Al-Hadil). Which became famous at the time, following it was broadcast for the first time through the Armed Forces Radio in 1968, in cooperation with the late Iraqi composer Muhammad Jawad Amuri.

The Iraqi Artists Syndicate mourned the star, nicknamed “The Voice of the Earth,” in a statement that said, “With great sadness and sorrow, the Iraqi Artists Syndicate mourns the passing of the Voice of the Earth, the artist Yas Khader, who passed away in Baghdad due to a terminal illness, asking the Lord to bless him with the mercy of his mercy, and to inspire his family.” And his loved ones and colleagues patience and solace.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera Net, the head of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate, Jabbar Judy, said, “The late Yas Khader gained Arab fame because of his distinctive voice and unique lyrical color, especially as he combined the rural and emotional color, so he distinguished himself from his peers and the rest of the singers of his generation.”

Judy added that the late is one of the statures of Iraqi and Arab singing, and he was famous in the Arab world for his distinctive voice, especially since he dealt with great composers. Such as: Talib Al-Qara Ghuli, and Muhammad Jawad Amuri, so he “became like a legend.”

Awards and honors

He was honored at the Sixth Doha Festival in 2005 by Iraqi artist Kazem El Saher. He was awarded the honorary shield at the Stars of Art ceremony in 2008 by the Al-Nujoom satellite channel network, presented to him by the Iraqi artist Reda Al-Abdullah, on behalf of the channel’s management.

He also received the Creativity Medal at the Radio and Television Forum in 2015, and was honored by the Cultural Committee at Al-Alwiya Club in Baghdad in 2018.

The late Yas Khader participated in many official and unofficial festivals and concerts, inside and outside the Arab world, especially in the Arab Gulf, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Egypt, and in a number of European countries, where he sang for Arab communities in various colors of singing.

Flute player Shukr Marzuk Al-Obaidi – who accompanied Yas Khadr in most of his songs – tells Al-Jazeera Net that the departure of Yas Khadr is a great affliction, and he added, “How can I mourn him when I was shocked by the departure of two figures at the same time: Yas Khadr and Karim al-Iraqi, and the heavens guard them while they are in the gardens of bliss.” “.

In his obituary for Elias Khader, the journalist Sabah Alal Zayer told Al-Jazeera Net, “With the departure of great composers and poets such as Muhammad Jawad Amuri, Talib Al-Qara Ghuli, Mohsen Farhan, Abd Al-Hussein Al-Samawi, Kamal Al-Sayed, and Kamel Al-Amiri, the legend of the Iraqi melody that will not be repeated left with them, and when Fouad Salem and Yas Khader are gone, as half of the sweet lyrical beauty of the seventies has passed away.

Yas Khader died at dawn yesterday, Saturday, in the Medical City Hospital in Baghdad, following his health condition deteriorated for two weeks. Due to heart problems, a large funeral ceremony took place for him, in which thousands of artists and citizens participated.

He died one day following the death of the great Iraqi poet Karim al-Iraqi, where his burial took place at the headquarters of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate in central Baghdad, then his home before he was buried in the Wadi al-Salam cemetery, where he was born in the city of Najaf.
