A unique complicity unites Jay and Mélodie-Jade, whom Corneille put in a duel on the song “Et si”, by Tayc and Camille Lellouche, on Sunday, at “La Voix”.
“It took us a while to understand and assimilate the song, said the 24-year-old singer. Mélodie-Jade doesn’t rap in life, we had to adjust. Luckily she lives three minutes from my house, we were able to rehearse together outside the studio. We get along well, and we thought we were going to have fun on the stage, giving a good “show”.
At no time does he seem to have been stressed by this experience. “I wanted to live this moment without thinking too much regarding what was going to happen following. I stayed positive, I didn’t feel that either of us was going to leave the adventure, I felt that we were both going to stay.
Jay is happy to have chosen Corneille as a coach. “It’s cool to work with him, he’s always open to suggestions. He is willing to do what it takes to make us comfortable, while keeping us in the right direction. He makes sure that what we do makes sense.”
If he has so much confidence and seems so comfortable, it has not always been the case. “I think I discovered myself as a person and as an artist. The first two times I tried my luck at “La Voix” and it didn’t work out, it was because I didn’t take charge of my voice. Since then, I assume myself and there is a kind of confidence that comes with it.
Not only was he chosen by his coach, but Corneille also saved Mélodie-Jade, so his intuition was correct.
“The Voice”: an overtaking for Virginie Péloquin
Even if she was stressed when approaching the stage of the duels at “La Voix” on Sunday, Virginie Péloquin was a little reassured by discovering the song “Jusqu’au bout”, by Amel Bent, which Mario Pelchat had chosen for his duel in front of Melisane.
“The song is regarding how people will sometimes deviate us from our dreams, telling us that it’s not possible or that we’re not that good. It happened sometimes with old companions, even my family is always behind me. I wanted to get my message across and impress the coaches.”
The 29-year-old singer, who had failed in the duels during the first season of “The Voice”, was able to seize this second chance. “Being selected for a second time made me realize that I had to believe in myself even more. I gave it my all to surpass myself, I wanted people to see all the efforts I put in to get there.”
The coach seems to have been sensitive to it since he named Virginie before adding that he chose the one who has evolved the most and whom he has seen grow the most. This choice and his words were comforting for Virginie.
“My goal was to go further than the first time. I really wanted to surpass myself, I won over me. I realized that I really had a talent and that I deserved my place. I regained my confidence.”
“The Voice”: the benevolence of Sylveo
By pairing Sylveo and Ashley Richard on the Boulay Sisters’ song “I’ll make you dance”, Corneille was able to create a duel during which the two candidates did each other good on Sunday at “La Voix”.
Sylveo, the 25-year-old French singer, was quite confident. “I was excited regarding the song, and because I was going to do it with Ashley. I found it interesting that she was so introverted in life, but so generous once on stage. I was really enthusiastic and also aware that it was a challenge.
At the start of rehearsals, however, Sylveo was unsettled by the song and the rhythm it demanded. “I usually sing songs that are quite slowed down or soft. When I do covers, I always do them in my own way, emphasizing the weight of the words and their meaning. There, it was just going too fast for me, the reason why we slowed it down followingwards.
The result was however up to the expectations of the coach, who underlined the important evolution of Ashley. However, he decided to continue the adventure with the one who is the best equipped and the most ready.
“His decision did me good, especially in the face of the feeling of illegitimacy that I have had since I have been in Quebec. I feel good and in my place here, but I have the chronometer which is activated, to know if I will be able to stay here more than the two years of my PVT.
