Upon landing in Montreal, Axelle Red realized that she had a special attachment to Quebec. “There are things in life that we keep in the back of our minds and that we don’t necessarily think regarding,” she told the QMI Agency. A lot of things have happened since the last time, but when we arrived in Montreal, everything came back.
From the period when she visited us up to four times in the same year, she experienced a lot of beautiful things, and others more comical. “I remember a TV show asking me what would make me most happy. I said I saw a polar bear, and they brought one to the set.”
Semi final
The singer is familiar with the concept of The voice since she has already been a coach for the Flemish version of The Voicein Belgium.
“Whoever was my bassist for the first 10 years of my career, Daniel Romeo, is now the musical director of the show. We even started working together once more some time ago, and he is with me in Quebec at the moment. There are no coincidences in life.”
Axelle Red says that Quebec has a reputation for having very good singers, and she can’t wait to meet the young artists who are still competing on the show.
“It’s great to rediscover through them the same dreams that I had at their age. Then, it’s interesting to discover all these new talents. But what also makes me happy is to see that the songs I wrote have a new life, that they transcend generations. In France, for example, candidates from The Voice regularly cover my song Because it’s you.»
Precisely, one of his biggest successes, Sensualitycelebrates its 30e anniversary, but it’s a bit like the tree that hides the forest, because several others have also had great success, such as My prayer or I am waiting for youtwo songs that she will sing with the candidates of The voicethis Sunday.
“I’ve written 10 albums, and it’s nice to know that there isn’t just one song that has left its mark on people. Besides, everyone knows me differently. Those who have listened to all my albums know all the facets of my personality, the others just know some great hits. I’ve been a human rights activist for almost 25 years, and I’d say half of my songs are very socially engaged.”
A lawyer by training, Axelle Red had planned to engage in humanitarian work if her musical career did not take off. For 25 years, she has traveled the world to advance causes by supporting various organizations.
“If I hadn’t been a singer, I would have been a human rights lawyer.”
The semi-final of The voice takes place this Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., on TVA.
