The Vision Pro development kit will be difficult to obtain

A month ago just around the time of the summer solstice, Apple released its visionOS‌ development kit as 1.0 Developer Beta and today it reveals some more details regarding it.

Restrictive conditions weighing on developers

As for iOS or macOS, this development kit allows third-party developers to create applications for the Apple Vision Pro headset and test them with a simple Mac. The firm is now taking the next step, revealing the process by which developers will be able to borrow an Apple Vision Pro to build apps in time for the launch of the new headset App Store.

Now developers can request this ARVR Headset SDK. In an email sent to registered developers, the Californian firm offers some small links to help them in their work, such as evaluating the compatibility of an app with the Vision Pro (left to Apple’s care) or access to dedicated labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai Singapore and Tokyo.

Choice at Apple’s discretion

In practice, to obtain the kit, developers will have to submit what Apple calls a pre-request for the Vision Pro development kit (a kind of pre-registration, at the limit of the application file). Remember that they must meet a few conditions: hold a registered account within the Apple Developer program and provide details of the development skills of the team and existing applications.

In other words, everything will not necessarily be chosen, the firm reserving the final choice. She says she will review applications and that priority will be given to applicants who build an app that takes advantage of the features and capabilities of visionOS.
