The Non-Fungible token (NFT), a non-expendable piece, is a virtual object, be it a drawing, an animation, a piece of music, a photo, a video excerpt, to which a certificate of authenticity is associated.
Twitter advances its integration of crypto technology with the possibility of using a file NFT as a profile picture, a feature currently in testing for iOS, which is available only within the subscription Twitter Blue.
Twitter Blue is a monthly subscription that gives users exclusive access to premium features and customizations of the app for a cost, as described by the same social network in its portal.
What is an NFT?
The NFT (from the English “Non Fungible Tokens” or non-exchangeable tokens), is a virtual object, be it a drawing, an animation, a piece of music, a photo, a video extract, to which a certificate of authenticity is associated. .
This document is included in an inventory called “blockchain”, considered inviolable.
The virtual object, which is actually a computer file, can be exchanged or resold, as long as you have your certificate. The special thing regarding NFTs is that they are unique pieces, so by acquiring the image or song itself, no one else can own it.
How does it work?
The Labs (laboratories) are the ones that manage to make available to the users of the Blue subscription the new functions that it is working on for the payment service, which they can also try in advance.
By putting an NFT as a profile picture, it will be visible under a hexagon-shaped frame. This novelty means that the user can link his crypto wallet to his Twitter account.
The company indicates, on the Labs page, that this linkage means that current and historical crypto wallet transactions and holdings, including all other NFTs in that wallet, will be associated with the Twitter account, “because all this information is available on the public blockchain”.
The feature is still in a trial period for Twitter Blue and can only be used by users of the iOS app, although the hexagonal image with the NFT will be visible to all users.
At the moment, the Twitter Blue subscription is available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand at a price of 2.99 dollars per month, which is approximately 2,000 Chilean pesos.
