Incredible things a few hours before the traditional match between Upper and Lower Town veterans, which is scheduled for tomorrow M. Friday (12.00) at the Refugee stadium.
By decision of the Board of Directors, the veterans of Panachaki announced that they will not take part in the game, for the first time following more than 35 years!
Obviously this is not a hasty decision. There is a background. As the newspaper “Peloponnisos” reported in the previous days, there were already reactions from some veterans of Panachaiki, who wanted the game to be played at the stadium of the “red and black” and not at the stadium of Refugees as was agreed last year, for reasons unrelated to the competitive one.
The president of Panachaki veterans, Dimitris Argyropoulos, took it upon himself to bridge the gap, he spoke privately with most of them and finally it was decided that they would normally attend the Refugee Stadium.
Then there was communication between Dimitris Argyropoulos and the president of the veterans of Patras, Takis Lambropoulos, in order to discuss the details.
The side of the veterans of Patras took the decision to change the conditions of the match, i.e. to make it a game of veterans of Upper and Lower Polis and not a game of Upper Polis – Panachaiki, as has been the case for the last 35 years. In fact, they had already secured different uniforms for the two teams and appointed coaches!
Argyropoulos was surprised by the decision, he argued that such decisions should be taken jointly and not unilaterally and “on foot”, as a result of which there is no consensus.
After all this, followed the decision of the Board of Directors of the veterans of Panachaiki not to “attend” the game, which constitutes another huge blow to the prestige of the institution, which has been declining in recent years.
The announcement reads as follows:
“Following a decision by the Board of Directors, the Association of Veteran Football Players of Panachaiki is in the unpleasant position of announcing that it will not participate in the established match on Good Friday, Upper – Lower Town.
The reason is simple: There is not going to be such a fight! And we explain ourselves. The Board of Directors of the Association of Veteran Football Players of Patras unilaterally decided to change the conditions of the match, according to which it has been held for the last 35 years, which we do not agree with, especially when there is no warning and no preparation. Of course, any veteran – member of ours who wishes to take part in the fight of M. Paraskevi, has every right to do so”.
