It’s an international hit that everyone has already hummed. “Shape of you” is the song that propelled British singer Ed Sheeran to the top of the bill… And who found himself at the heart of a controversy and then a lawsuit.
It was the two musicians Sam Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue, authors of the lesser known title “Oh Why”, who accused Ed Sheeran of having plagiarized them. The trial was held on Tuesday March 8 in London.
A month later, on Wednesday April 6, the High Court rendered its judgment and found Ed Sheeran innocent. She thus felt that no copying had been undertaken by the singer, “neither deliberately nor unconsciously“.
A victory which the interpreter (and composer, therefore) of “Shape of you” quickly commented on social networks. “Happy” with this verdict, he apologized for accusations of this type “too common”. “Jhope we can all get back to writing songs rather than having to prove we can write them.”
