The People’s Workers’ Party of Vaud (POP-VD) is presenting a ticket made up of its president Anaïs Timofte and environmental activist Zakaria Dridi for the Council of States in the federal elections, he announced on Monday. They are also top of the list for the National.
Aged 31, Anaïs Timofte had already run for the Chamber of Cantons of the federal parliament in the 2019 elections. She obtained 2.4% of the vote in the first round. This mother of a 10-year-old child worked for several years in the retail trade before becoming a political scientist. She is a municipal councilor in Lausanne, where she lives.
Zakaria Dridi, 21, is a computer scientist and parliamentary assistant at the Grand Council for POP. He was also a municipal councilor in Sainte-Croix. A member of the Climate Strike collective, he became known for having occupied the premises of the Retraites Populaires in Lausanne on March 15, 2019, on the sidelines of one of the first marches for the climate. He was sentenced to six half-days of public interest suspended by the Vaud justice for this action.
