“The Vaudois Hat-Trick: Yverdon, Lausanne-Sport, and SLO Triumph in Challenge League”

The Challenge League delivered its verdict on Saturday: it offers a historic Vaudois hat-trick with the title for Yverdon, direct promotion for Lausanne-Sport and a play-off place for SLO.

If everyone agreed at the start of the season on the presence of Lausanne-Sport in this top three because of the financial power of its owner – Ineos allowed Ludovic Magnin to work with a budget almost twice as high than that of the other clubs -, Yverdon and Stade Lausanne-Ouchy really thwarted all the predictions.

In Nord-Vaudois, Marco Schällibaum was able to count on battered Super League players eager for revenge. At Pontaise, Anthony Braizat has built the best attack in the Challenge League – 70 goals – around Frenchman Teddy Okou, who shares the crown of the king of scorers with his compatriot Brighton Labeau (19 goals), the spearhead of Lausanne- Sport.

If Stade Lausanne-Ouchy is lucky enough to win the promotion/relegation play-off, the three Vaudois teams will approach the next season, the three blows of which will be given on July 22 with very different approaches. Yverdon and Stade Lausanne-Ouchy will of course aim to remain in a twelve-man championship which will condemn the last to direct relegation and which will send the eleventh to a play-off.

The formidable challenge of Ludovic Magnin

For Lausanne-Sport, the objective will be to appear in the final round which will bring together the first six in the standings following the first phase played over 33 days. Ludovic Magnin thus finds himself faced with a formidable challenge. Despite his strong speech which implies that he and his players were alone once morest the rest of the world, the former international defender knows perfectly well that the artistic note attributed to his team is not the best.

After this season when his team shook until the last second of added time in the last match to ensure his return to the top flight, Ludovic Magnin will once once more have no room for error. To stick to the objectives of Ineos, whose first steps in football both in Nice and in Lausanne are very hesitant, he has a month ahead of him to ‘invent’ a team capable of playing a prominent role in the Super League. Not easy…
