The use of face masks will once again be mandatory in Colombia due to the increase in covid-19 infections

The increase in covid-19 cases that is occurring in Colombia prompted the Ministry of Health to evaluate new measures to deal with the pandemic. According to the Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, the portfolio that she presides over will once again make the mask mandatory under certain conditions.

SEMANA spoke directly with the minister to clarify what the decision will consist of. “It is practically the same, because we have never dismantled the measures,” she indicated, referring to the fact that currently the use of face masks is still mandatory in certain specific spaces such as health centers, public transport and nursing homes.

But he said that there will be a key change and that is that the mask will be mandatory in closed and open spaces when there are crowds. As Corcho warned, this decision will remain firm through a resolution.

And he warned that, for now, they ruled out the possibility of re-requiring the vaccination card against covid-19. “We prefer to appeal to persuasive and pedagogical measures,” Corcho said.

“We have some difficulties in more than 400 small municipalities,” said Minister Corcho. She said they will use more than 900 territorial health teams to improve vaccination rates.
