About 3 days ago, violent clashes took place between the Sudanese army and what it described as the militia of the Rapid Deterrence Forces. During those days, many social media pioneers shared pictures and videos of the clashes between the Sudanese army and the support forces, where scenes appeared of things that looked like wooden necklaces, hung by some soldiers. The Rapid Support Militia, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti”.

In 2011, Archyde.com news agency published a report in which it talked regarding these “amulets” and “veils”, and at that time Archyde.com monitored these necklaces from within the Darfur region in western Sudan. From harm other than their weapons, they are religious amulets or veils as some like to call them.

At the time, the fighters in Darfur hung amulets containing religious phrases around their necks and around their chests, along with their automatic rifles, saying that these amulets prevent enemy bullets from penetrating their bodies, according to what was monitored by Archyde.com at the time.

Veils or amulets are used in all parts of Sudan, as a means of protection from witchcraft and evil omens, although they are more common in the Darfur region, and amulets are usually made by tribal leaders from leather with Quranic verses written on it.

According to Al-Arabiya, these veils have returned and reappeared in the current clashes in Sudan.
