Last year, the European Parliament passed a law stating that every mobile phone launched within the EU borders will use a USB Type-C charging port. Therefore, according to EU law, Apple plans to add a USB-C port. The iPhone 15 USB-C port will be a new standard this year.
There will be no more lightning outlets, thanks to EU law to ensure the same charger for all cell phones. The iPhone has the same connector, but it doesn’t say it will be available for every charger or accessory. The USB-C port on the iPhone will have limitations for some accessories.
Apple’s iPhone 15 USB-C port will be limited to some accessories…
Apple is said to have developed a lightning-compatible integrated circuit board that will work in conjunction with the USB-C port on the iPhone. Given this, the firmware or semiconductor chip has the most control. The iPhone USB port will limit its interaction with the accessory that users will connect it to. The feature is basically a Lightning-like authentication chip that will not allow unauthorized extensions to perform actions.
What are Integrated Circuit (IC) Interfaces?
Integrated circuit interfaces are semiconductor chips for sharing information between devices. This chipset was released back in 2012. Initially, MFI certified lightning ports and connectors had a small authentication IC. These slides display “This accessory is not supported” warnings for unauthorized devices.
This leads to something new, the “Made for iPhone Lightning Ecosystem,” though the shape of the connector has changed. However, the benefit of the doubt goes to Apple. Meanwhile, the USB C ports on iPhones, iPads, Apple TV remotes, or the Thunderbolt ports on many Apple devices aren’t just for Apple-certified accessories.
Let’s assume this Apple iPhone 15 rumor is true. So, we will get the normal charging speed with any standard USB-C cable. However, additional features such as high-speed charging and data transfer will only be available for Apple-certified accessories. The Lightning circuit board will serve as a backup plan, allowing countless Lightning accessories to work with the iPhone, even with a USB C port.
The new iPhone 15 Pro Max will be on the market this fall. Apple iPhone 15 rumors suggest that cheaper phones will have USB C ports. In turn, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro max devices will have Thunder 3 ports. Standard USB-C ports will have USB 2 data transfer speeds, and Thunderbolt 3 will support 4K display and transfer Data fast. Let’s wait for more news regarding the iPhone 15 USB-C port.
