If you’re afraid of the dark, you won’t like this town in America’s North.

The town of Yatkiajeok, formerly known as Barrow, in the U.S. state of Alaska experienced the longest night at sunset on November 18.

In fact, it was the last time the sun set in the town in 2020 and now residents will be able to see the sunlight again after more than 2 months.

The reason for this Polar Night or Polar Night is seen every winter in the Arctic and Antarctica because the Earth tilts slightly on its axis.

As a result, the Arctic Circle can stay away from the Sun for days, weeks, or even months during winter and spring.

In contrast, in summer, the sunlight in this region lasts for 24 hours and is known as Midnight Sun.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the length of the day begins to shorten from the end of June and the duration of the sunset begins to decrease in every country, but the effect is greatest in the northern regions.

The length of the day there begins to shorten rapidly in late September, as did this town in Alaska.

On November 1st, 5 hours and 42 minutes of sunlight were observed in Yatkyajjuk, that is, the sun rose at 10:18 am and set at 4:00 pm.

On November 18, the sun rose for only 34 minutes and set at 1:29 PM and will rise again 66 days later.

Well, during this time, the light of the sun will be visible to some extent, but it will not be like a normal sunset or sunrise.

Now the sun will rise there again on January 23.

Well, hearing about the darkness for more than 2 months sounds bad, but the town also experiences never-ending daylight from May 11 to August 18.

At the North and South Poles, the sun sets and rises once a year, meaning the sun rises in spring and sets in winter.

As a result, at the North Pole, there is sunlight from March to September, while darkness reigns for the remaining 6 months, with only the stars and the moon visible.

What’s more surprising is that this Alaskan town has about as many hours of sunlight as cities in other countries, thanks to the long summer days.
