The US House of Congress passed a new bill to block TikTok

Unlike the previous bill, which passed last month and failed to clear the Senate, this one has a better chance of passage because it was approved by the lower house of the US Congress as part of a larger package that also includes military aid bills for Ukraine. Israel and Taiwan, and the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine.

According to the new bill, ByteDance will have up to a year to sell to avoid blocking, rather than six months as in the previous document.

The new bill calls for an initial nine-month sales period for TikTok assets and gives the president the authority to extend it for an additional three months if progress is made toward a sale agreement.

None of the experts have any doubts that this bill will be approved by the US Senate, where the Democrats have a majority of votes. US President Joe Biden has announced his readiness to sign the TikTok law as soon as it is passed in the Senate.

As Bloomberg reported, citing its sources, because of the adoption of the bill, TikTok management is going to fire Erich Andersen, the general counsel of TikTok and the Chinese parent company ByteDance Ltd. in the US because he failed to convince the US government that the company was taking all necessary measures to prevent a threat to national security due to its ties to China.

However, TikTok representative Alex Haurek, in response to a request to comment on this message, called it 100 percent false.
