The US Army will conduct the largest drone swarm exercise in its history

The U.S. Army plans to host the largest drone swarm exercise in its history, called EDGE 2022, in May, Army spokesman General Walter Rugen said at an American Aviation Association summit. It is reported by National Defense Magazine.

According to the general, more than 50 technologies are planned to be demonstrated at the exercise. Drones will detect and identify threats, including in conditions of poor visibility, act autonomously in conditions of loss of communication and GPS signal. The army will also test the ability of drones to hit targets and assess damage, as well as explore the possibility of combat use of drones.

Rugen said the army will evaluate the possibility of issuing an “alpha” drone that will control the tasks of other vehicles, including in an area where manned platforms cannot access. According to him, the upcoming experiment will show how drone swarms should operate in order to ensure victory over enemy drone swarms. He said that 7 US international partners would take part in the exercises.

Earlier, CNN reported that the United States sent 100 Switchblade loitering ammunition to the Ukrainian military.
