The Urgent Need for Overhauling Lebanon’s Health Sector: A Call for Reconfiguration and Responsibility

A member of the “Democratic Gathering” bloc, Representative Wael Abu Faour, said that “in the midst of preoccupation with the presidency, which is still impossible, we coexist surrenderingly with our continuing health tragedy.”

In a statement, he added, “The health sector with all its extensions needs to be reconfigured and organized: from hospitals to drug companies to the pharmaceutical sector, to some doctors, to beauty centers to medical equipment companies.”

He continued, “It is true that the state is almost idle and has lost its financing capacity, but it has not lost its authority under the law to protect patients and citizens in general.”

He pointed out that “the head of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Bilal Abdullah, carries out his duties in full through the Health Committee, but the executive decision is in another place, and the ministers and concerned officials, who are many, must assume their responsibilities to combat greed and the illegal and exaggerated benefits of some parties to this sector, and of course at the expense of the Lebanese patient.” .
