The URBSFA takes the matter seriously and will cooperate fully with the judicial investigation.

On Tuesday, the former president of Standard de Liège Roland Duchâtelet as well as Jelle Van Damme and Paul-José Mpoku, two former players from the Liège club, had filed a complaint on Tuesday with a civil action with the investigating judge in Brussels.

Duchâtelet’s complaint was directed once morest Anthony Vanden Borre and Ilombe Mboyo, players of Anderlecht and KRC Genk respectively, once morest these two clubs, and once morest X. Van Damme and Mpoku’s complaint is once morest the same two clubs and once morest X.

Roland Duchâtelet has maintained since the summer of 2014 that the fight for the title at the end of the 2013-2014 season has been distorted. Standard Liège finished top of the classic phase that year, but following the playoffs Anderlecht won the title, ahead of Standard and Club Brugge. The president of Standard at the time suspects that two matches were fixed, Anderlecht-Genk on May 11 (4-0) and Genk-Bruges on May 15 (3-2).

As this first match approached, Anthony Vanden Borre, then Anderlecht player, would have distributed luxury watches to Genk players, so that they slowed down during the match. Before the second offending match, Genk player Ilombe Mboyo would also have offered luxury watches to his teammates, just to ensure that they would be over-motivated once morest Club Brugge. Genk was at this last moment of playoffs 1, having nothing to win or lose.

The URBSFA further clarified on Friday that it “will also cooperate fully with the judicial investigation“.
