The Minister of Institutional Reform, Murielle Minkoué Mintsa, in a lively press conference on Friday March 22, 2024 in Libreville, made it clear that the next constitution which will be drafted by a constituent, will be based on the aspirations of the Gabonese people, but not the will of a minority and the manipulations indulged in by the fallen regime embodied for 56 years by the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG).
“After the 1991 constitution, politicians manipulated it, tampered with it at will. At no time, except in 1994, did we have the expression of the people; and the CTRI and the transitional government are counting on this expression of the people during the constitutional referendum scheduled for the end of the year”indicated Ms. Minkoué Mintsa.
For the member of the Transition government, the dialogues initiated in the past were “purely political”. This is the preserve of the political parties of the majority and the opposition. Meetings whose conclusions did not reflect the will of the people.
“Regarding the concerns of some, there is the inclusive nature of the meetings. It is an inclusive dialogue because it excludes no one. It was inclusive during its preparation to the extent that the people were consulted following the call for contributions by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2023”she argued.
The call for contributions to the National Dialogue, which expired on December 30, 2023, produced more than 23,000 contributions made individually or in associations, including by the Gabonese diaspora. They will be examined from April 2 to 30 during the national dialogue, some of which are asking for its postponement for better organization.
