The newspaper Le Soir has collected a series of information allowing us to retrace the journey of Abdesalem Lassoued in Belgium. Obviously, several services had to deal with him: justice, police, intelligence, Foreigners Office but no one considered it necessary to be suspicious of him.
On December 1, 2015, Abdesalem Lassoued arrived in Belgium. It was only 4 years later, in October or November 2019, that he submitted an asylum application to the Immigration Office, giving number 69 avenue Huart Hamoir in Schaerbeek as his address. An address that will never be verified.
On December 23, 2019, the Immigration Office questioned Abdesalem Lassoued. He declares that he is married to a Belgian and presents a Tunisian marriage certificate which is not recognized.
On October 29, 2020, almost a year later, his request for asylum was refused. Reason: the person concerned never showed up for his hearing. It is also removed from the municipal register.
The immigration office issues an order to leave the territory on March 4, 2021. A letter is sent by registered mail to his address. But it will never be received.
On June 2, 2022, the Belgian police noticed suspicious behavior from the individual. However, the police, the prosecution, the Immigration Office and the intelligence services conclude that Abdesalem Lassoued is not known for acts of radicalization.
Convicted and wanted by the Tunisian authorities. Interpol receives the case on July 1, 2022.
On August 15, 2022, Tunisia requested the extradition of Lassoued. The file goes through Foreign Affairs then the Ministry of Justice. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office will not be informed until a month later. The extradition order is placed in the current files cabinet.
On August 4, 2023, a complaint for threats was filed once morest Abdesalem Lassoued. The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office orders his reporting in mid-September. The person concerned will never be arrested. On October 16, 2023, he killed two Swedish supporters.
