30 years following the disappearance of two divers in southern France, the remains of two men who might be the missing men have been found off the coast of Nice. After all search efforts in 1993 were unsuccessful, two extreme divers accidentally came across the remains of a diver and his diving tank at a depth of 103 meters in December, as the broadcaster BFMTV reported on Thursday with reference to the authorities.

The police managed to locate the diver using a diving robot. During the rescue of the dead body, which was organized at a later date, the officials then used the robot’s camera to view the remains of a second diver at a depth of 113 meters. Both were brought to the surface. A DNA analysis of the skeletons of the dead should now provide final certainty regarding their identity. When they dived in 1993, the men were 38 and 40 years old.

Together with another diver, the two men set off on a dive to a fascinating but dangerous diving destination, the “Tombant des Américains”, as the newspaper “Nice Matin” reported. On the way down, one of the divers got into trouble and the other two tried to help him. In the end, only the youngest of them, a 22-year-old, made it back to the surface and alerted the rescue workers. They searched for the missing people for two days with great effort and in vain.
